Q+A with Joseph Kim, Immersive Technology Specialist
How do you describe your job to people outside of the industry?
I specialize in providing technology-based solutions. I help visualize built environments and provide an enhanced virtual experience. I also work with computational design services and help to develop advanced technology tools and workflows to facilitate our processes.
Why did you decide to become a designer?
I enjoy helping people create built environments, and it has been such a rewarding experience – especially when I can witness those spaces being used as we intended. I also have a strong passion for technologies that help this collaborative work process. It has led me to develop my technical skills to provide an immersive digital experience and to help others utilize the computational design tool approach in our workflow.
How would you describe life at Ghafari?
It is very family-friendly, warm, and supportive. Various activities also provide a fun, inviting atmosphere and opportunities to meet with a diverse group of great people.
What is the most exciting thing that has happened during your time here?
The opportunity to research, explore, and develop advanced technologies in helping to create an immersive experience via VR / AR / XR. It has opened new doors to computational design, and with my new role, it has been very challenging, but very exciting.
What is a key idea or lesson you have learned while working at Ghafari?
It may sound cliché, but I would say “never stop learning” and teamwork.
How do you like to spend your free time?
Enjoying time with my family, playing guitar / bass, building a Gunpla with friends, and playing VR video games.
