Turkish Airlines Celebrates the Grand Opening of Five Operational Facilities in Istanbul
Ghafari team members were on hand to celebrate the grand opening of five of Turkish Airlines’ (THY) operational facilities at the all-new international airport in Istanbul. THY is developing a state-of-the-art campus comprised of 50+ next-generation support facilities totaling over 650,000 SM. They engaged Ghafari to provide master planning, architecture, and engineering services for a complex of buildings that set a new standard in airline operational excellence.
The five recently completed buildings that comprise the first phase of this massive campus include a line maintenance hangar, a ULD (unit loading device) repair facility, an in-flight services facility, battery charging facility, and a cargo forward base. Together, these facilities total nearly 50,500 SM. Construction of the campus’ remaining buildings is ongoing, with the airline operations center, ground service equipment building, airside staff gate, and a number of satellite buildings expected to be complete by March 3 (the official airport transfer day).
